Why choose O'Brien Line?
We operate the largest and most comfortabe boats from doolin. 40 YEARS of sailing makes us the longest running operators of ferries to the Aran Islands.
Doolin is the Shortest and the Fastest crossing to the Aran Islands. We operate steel European Class 2A ships, the highest saftey standard awarded to domestic passenger ships in Ireland. Other boats in doolin are built of G.R.P (Glass Reinforced Plastic) and awarded a much lower Class 6 saftey standard. We are a family run business, father and son, Bill and Liam O'Brien are allways happy to assist you in any way possible to make your trip easier.
OUR HISTORY.........
The first ferries from Doolin were started in 1970 by Bill O'Brien
The company started out with a small speed boat - regulations were a lot more lax back then. Over the years Bill improved his boats, increasing in size and comfort. The Irish Department of Transport regulations changed in 1987 and from then on they insisted that a ferry using doolin pier would be of steel construction and built to a European Class 2A standard. In response to this directive, Bill built a brand new 48 seater ferry named the TRANQUILITY.
In 2002 the Tranquility, having served the company so well, underwent a major refurbishment. She was lengthened by 20 feet and given a brand new passenger cabin and wheelhouse.
Why change to our name to O'Brien Line?
In 2007 we launched our new and exciting Cliffs Of Moher Cruise. Therefore in order to encompass both aspects of our business, we decided to make the transition to O'Brien Line. We are providing the same outstanding service, only under a different name.
